Provincial Nominee Programs — the +600 CRS shortcut

A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points — effectively guaranteeing an Invitation to Apply. Here is every active stream, eligibility, and the strategy for picking the right one.

Enhanced vs Base PNP

Enhanced nominations flow through Express Entry and add +600 CRS. Base nominations are paper PR applications outside Express Entry (12–24 months).

Targets your province, not Canada

PNPs are designed to fill provincial labour shortages — Ontario tech, BC healthcare, Saskatchewan trades, Atlantic francophones.

Tech streams (OINP, BC PNP, AAIP)

Dedicated tech draws for software developers, data scientists, network engineers. Lower CRS thresholds and rolling intake.

Healthcare streams

BC, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan run health-authority streams for nurses, doctors and allied health workers — often with no employer cap.

French-aligned streams

New Brunswick, Ontario French-Speaking Skilled Worker and Manitoba Francophone stack with French CRS bonuses.

No-job-offer pathways

OINP HCP, Saskatchewan EE, Alberta Express Entry and BC Skills Immigration nominate without a Canadian job offer for in-demand profiles.

How it works

How a PNP transforms your CRS

Why a single nomination almost always converts to an ITA in the next round.

+600 CRS, automatically

When you accept a provincial nomination in your Express Entry profile, IRCC adds 600 CRS points to your total — pushing virtually any profile (typical pre-bonus 350–520) well above the cut-off for PNP-specific rounds.

PNP rounds clear in the 700s

IRCC runs PNP-specific draws every 2 weeks. Cut-offs typically land between 691 and 783 — well within reach of any candidate carrying the +600 bonus.

Two intake paths

Enhanced — apply via Express Entry, get nominated, +600, ITA in weeks. Base — file directly with the province; standalone PR application, slower but no CRS dependency.

Expression of Interest (EOI)

Most provinces (OINP, BC PNP, AAIP, MPNP) use EOI pools. You submit a free EOI; the province periodically invites the highest scoring profiles to formally apply.

Strategy: choosing the right PNP for your profile

  1. Filter by occupation. Tech (OINP Tech, BC PNP Tech, AAIP Accelerated Tech), healthcare (NSNP Physician, BC Health Authority, OINP), trades, agri-food and education all have dedicated streams.
  2. Filter by job offer requirement. OINP Human Capital Priorities, Saskatchewan EE, Alberta EE and NSNP Labour Market Priorities can nominate with no Canadian employer.
  3. Filter by language. French speakers should stack NB EE, OINP French-Speaking Skilled Worker and Manitoba Francophone.
  4. Filter by CRS floor. Alberta EE has issued NOIs at CRS 300; OINP Tech ~430; BC PNP uses its own 200-point scoring.
  5. Filter by province connection. Saskatchewan and Manitoba prioritise candidates with relatives, prior study, or work in the province.

Don't pick one — file EOIs in parallel

Most provinces have free Expression of Interest pools. File EOIs to every stream you plausibly qualify for; the first to nominate wins. Accept and decline are decisions you only make once a nomination is on the table.
